This week Honduras celebrated “Dia De Los Niños” or “Children’s Day”. It is a national holiday where children are honored and celebrated. It is celebrated in many countries around the world on different dates. In Honduras that date is September 10. At schools, there are parties, food and games. Parents share in making food to donate to the schools. Ana, one of the mothers in El Pino, got up at 3am to make chicken and rice and 100 enchiladas. There may be gifts or cake at home or a trip to the mall for ice cream. Even if these things are not affordable, children still look forward to their special day.
